This unique programme will train a generation of NHS leaders to deliver the transformational power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

Our fellows are smart and energetic individuals who will lead the charge to revolutionise the NHS with clinical AI.

Meet the fellows.

Fellows were recruited competitively from all medical specialties in the training regions attached to the London AI Centre’s partner NHS Trusts.

About the fellowship programme

Clinicians with expertise in Artificial Intelligence are essential to the rollout of AI software in hospitals. In order to fully realise the UK government's goal of being a global AI superpower, the NHS must provide dedicated training for clinicians in cutting-edge skills required for clinical AI deployment (as recommended in the Topol Review). To date, there has been no formal or systematic route to acquire skills in clinical AI deployment.

This fellowship addresses this training need. It is a year-long programme (Cohort 1: June 2022-June 2023) which is integrated part-time alongside the medical training of doctors approaching consultancy. Fellows undertake immersive AI projects in live hospital workflows using the Artificial Intelligence Deployment Engine (AIDE) and Federated Learning Interoperability Platform (FLIP) platforms. They will be supervised by world experts in clinical AI.

Fellows will gain further skills and knowledge from a programme of teaching aligned with the Clinical AI Curriculum developed by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Department of Medical Physics.

This ground-breaking fellowship was created by the London AI Centre and supported by Health Education England. We are pleased to confirm that an independent educational evaluation has been commissioned from the Health Innovation Network for this inaugural cohort.
