The first theme encompassing “The Digital Technologies currently in use with pre-registration and undergraduate health and care education” was supported with questions consisting of the following.

Starting questions
  1. What does the term Digital Technologies mean to you?
  2. Which Digital Technologies do you currently use in your course/role/placement?
Probing questions
  1. Thinking about your own experiences of using Digital Technologies in education/placement, what would you like to see more of/less of?
  2. What key developments have you witnessed across Digital Technologies that can be used to improve health and care education?
  3. How can staff and students be supported to maximise technology?
  4. What external factors do you think impacted Digital Technology in Health and Care Education the most?
Recommendations
  1. What recommendations would you make to improve the use of digital technologies in Higher Education (HE) and placements?

The second theme “The digital literacies and digital technologies teachings currently being provided within pre-registration and undergraduate curricula and teaching” was also supported with questions consisting of the below.

Starting questions
  1. What do you think is meant by Digital Technology teaching?
  2. What digital teaching have you received as part of your role or course?
Probing questions
  1. What do you do if you need to learn a new Digital Technology? What gets in the way? What helps?
  2. How do you know if Digital Technology teaching has been effective? For you or for others? Is this evaluated?
  3. In your opinion and/or experience, what impacts a person`s ability to engage with improving their digital literacy?
  4. What are the key ingredients/components of effective Digital Technology teaching? What needs to happen for the experience to be good and effective?
  5. In your opinion, how supportive is your organisation or university in teaching Digital Technology?

The final theme “The specialist and technical skills needed by faculty staff (Clinical and Academic)” Was also supported with questions consisting of the below.

  1. What specialist skills are needed in relation to Digital Technology and Education?
  2. What technical skills are needed in relation to Digital Technology and Education?
Probing questions
  1. Thinking about your own specialist and technical skills, how have these been developed over the last 2 years? What would you like to have seen more of? Less of?
  2. How are faculty staff learning needs (in relation to technical and specialist skills) assessed, if at all?
  3. In your opinion and/or experience, what are the 3 most important specialist/technical skills needed? Why? If you could only pick one, which would it be?
  4. We have seen from our research so far, a large variation in confidence levels from faculty staff, what is your experience, and what impact do you think this has on the use of digital technology/learning?
  5. Neurodiversity, learning styles, and learner experience have all been cited in the survey in relation to the use of technology, what impact does this have/should this have on faculty skills development?
Recommendations
  1. What are the differences between the skills needed, and where your staff are right now? If we could choose on action to close the gap further, what would it be?
